Whilst developing the Soöruz Ocean Protect label, our R&D department embarked on a two-year journey in collaboration with our suppliers to incorporate recycled oyster shells in the creation of our wetsuits.
THE DEVELOPPEMENT OF THE OYSTERPRENE
Understanding the environmental impact of traditional neoprene, Soöruz has been committed to reducing its ecological footprint for over a decade. During this time, we have focused on developing new materials derived from renewable and recyclable sources. Key innovations such as bamboo and recycled polyester (2013), Yulex (2013), and Naturalprene (2016) have allowed us to create more sustainable wetsuits with enhanced performance. While many wetsuits feature limestone, a less petrochemical-dependent material, it involves an energy-intensive extraction process from quarries and is still a non renewable material.
In 2018, we conducted the first oyster shell crushing tests in France (in La Rochelle). These tests led to the development of two new materials: BIÖPRENE, primarily biobased and part of our new Greenline range (available since March 2020), and OYSTERPRENE©, available since July 2020.
L’éco-conception de l’Oysterprene
A SOÖRUZ INNOVATION ,SINCE 2020.
OYSTERPRENE© is utilized in our most flexible and high performance
neoprene, found in our expert and pro range (Guru+, Guru & GuruWind). This
innovation involves replacing limestone with a natural, recycled, and renewable
product derived from the grinding of oyster shells. This solution allows us to
maintain the technical performance of our wetsuits while improving our
environmental footprint without additional costs for the end customer. We are
proud of this innovation and our decision to make OYSTERPRENE© accessible to
the broader market.

Oysterprene Y7 Megaflex:
Extremely flexible and even lighter. Extreme shoulder freedom thanks to the new Y7-Oysterprene neoprene. It is made with less limestone and replaced by our oyster powder.
During the nylon manufacturing process, we collect fresh nylon yarn waste to produce recycled nylon. This new material offers better flexibility.
The lining is made of recycled polyester, which keeps you warm and dries quickly.
